The safari was excellent. We had an excellent time and no one in Dar Es Salaam believed that we could do it that cheap. Yet the food, the guide and the general atmosphere of the Safari was enjoyable and informative. We saw every animal you can imagine and drove through some of the most beautiful scenary I have ever seen. I will recommend Von Decken to everyone I meet.

In March/April 2006 we were on safaris With Von Der Decken Safaris: Lake Manyara and Ngorongoro Crater in north, both with a lot of all kind of animals and the services in top. We overnights in camps in a very nice tent, bringing our own cook, who served the most delicius meals. We enjoyed the nights of Africa with all the sounds from the animals, the total darkness, the stars and the moon very much. Very romantic.

A week later we went to the south, visited some beautiful nature/culture in the area of Mbeya and Ruaha National Park on the way back to Dar Es Salaam. Again everything was first class. It was a long trip, but the jeep and the driver was a perfect couple. In Ruaha we were staying in a camp with bandas. Again we saw a lot of animals, specialy a very big hippo, our neighbour, became our ”friend”.

The price for all that experiences was fair, and the atmosphere was very kind and calm. In the programme there was room to relaxe too. Our best recommendation to the Von Der Decken Safaris is, that we already have ordered the next Safari: To Selous in June this year.

Our warmest recomendation

If you want to go on a safari which brings you close to the splendid wildlife of Tanzania without interfering with nature then choose Von Der Decken Safaris. We went to Ruaha National Park in january 2007 for a four day trip (driving from Dar) and the Von Der Decken-guide used his local knowledge and skill to show us a great time in one of the more overlooked national parks of Tanzania. Furthermore the cooking inside the national park (Von Der Decken Safaris provided our own chef) was surprisingly good considering the meals were being prepared on a small fire. Our safari guide spoke excellent english and his good communication skills together with a high priority on safety gave us the best possible introduction to Tanzania.

I would highly recommend booking your safari trip with Von Der Decken Safaris. We had an excellent trip. We did the 3 day camp safari in the Northern Circuit. We spend the first day in Tarangire, the next in Lake Manyara and the last day in Ngoro Goro. All the parks were very diversified naturewise and some of the most beautiful nature I have ever seen. On our 3 day trip we saw a lot of different wildlife including the big 5! Our guide was excellent. He was very informative and told us a lot about the different habits of all the animals we came across. The campsites were great and even though we slept in small tents we felt safe the whole time. The cook Hamisi made delicious food and when we got back from our day trips there were always hot drinks waiting for us. It does get a bit cold at night - so remember to bring warm clothes. I am planning on doing the Southern Circuit the next time I come back to Tanzania and Will definitely book through Von Der Decken Safaris again.
